I live in the DFW and I have been a little shocked at what people will throw away. One day I saw this black side table and I decided to take it home with me. My husband is totally embarrassed by me taking things on trash day but I am not embarrassed by me so it is all good.
My oldest has art lying all over the house and attached to the walls. I decided to modge podge the table with his art. I honestly was not worried about ruining the table at all since it was from the side of the road anyway but I was nervous about ruining his art. I took many pictures of the art individually in case the project was a huge oops.
I put modge podge over the pictures but I felt it still needed extra protection. I remembered that Hobby Lobby has plastic in the fabric aisle. You know so you can protect your couch but still see the pretty fabric underneath. I used double-sided tape to stick the plastic over the top of the table. I’ve had it for over a year and so far it has protected the artwork underneath from the spills and other interesting things that have occurred.
Materials Needed
A piece of furniture that you rescued from disposal.
Pieces of artwork
Modge podge
Double-sided tape
Thin plastic large enough to cover the entire surface. (Hobby Lobby upholstery fabric aisle)
Step 1
Clean furniture
Step 2
Arrange artwork
Step 3
Adhere artwork to furniture
Step 4
Apply modge podge. Be careful because some marker work may blur a little. Also, let the first coat dry completely before adding another.
Step 5
Let modge podge dry for 24 hours
Step 6
Put the double-sided tape around the edges
Step 7
Cover design with plastic
I have modpodged pretty fabric to a desktop before and it worked very well. Reading this gave me thr idea of JUST using the clear vinyl over the art work and then changing out the pictures as warranted. Maybe using a tiny bit of tape to keep the pics from moving around.
