DIY Mommy and Me Outfit from T-shirts

I love wearing matching clothes, but buying matching outfits for me and Zadie can be expensive. Although I’m not a professional seamstress, I can sew straight lines on a machine. To save money, I buy two $1 clothes from Walmart – one for me and one to transform into a Zadie outfit. This easy DIY outfit requires only a little bit of sewing.

Although the color of my outfit matches Zadie’s, our outfits are not identical. I left my shirt as is. I used one of her dresses from her closet to use a sort-of pattern, selecting it based on its desired length.

I didn’t have to worry about hemming the edges of the dress since the T-shirt material doesn’t fray. However, the original neck was too large. Instead of hemming it, I chose to run a stitch of embroidery thread through it. My friend Tasha, who is a seamstress, suggests using elastic to make it smaller.

After completing the dress, I noticed it resembled a peasant dress, so I decided to make a matching peasant hat. The hat was easy to make, and my child even keeps it on her head.
