DIY Costume Hoodie Combo

One reason why Halloween is so popular is that children look adorable in costumes. My grandma bought the boys some Halloween costumes for them to play dress up in. I thought they were really good quality. I decided to sew them to a hoodie so they could wear them whenever they wanted. In this tutorial, I will show how I attached the top of a Halloween costume to a hoodie.

In my opinion the combination works a lot better when the hoodie is the same color as the costume.

I have created four different costume hoodies. The Hulk hood was the first and it taught me a thing or two. I learned not to stitch around the neck because it is not stretchy enough to go over the head. Just stitch along the front of the costume and the hoodie leaving the back open. I used the velcro that is attached to most costumes to close up the back after they are wearing it.

My oldest does not like pulling the other hoodies over his head so I made him a zip-up hoodie with a ninja turtle costume.

I stitched the costume on so that the bottom hem of the hoodie was still showing but the edge of the Halloween costume was not.

I folded the costume sleeve under to stitch around the sleeve.

The neck is probably the hardest part because if it is not done correctly it will not go over the head easily. After my first attempt with the Hulk, I only sew along the front neckline of the costume and leave the back open.

With the zipper hoodie, I cut down the center of the costume. This one is not as clean looking. It has visible stitches. II pinned the costume along the zipper and stitched along it. The material would not fray so if you had on that might you would need to turn the fabric under.
