Trunk or treats are fun activities for the families visiting and hosting. I love Halloween, but I don’t love all the candy we have in our house afterward. I thought it might be nice to hand out something different and beneficial. We handed out books at our book trunk or treat.
We collected books for our book trunk or treat from the congregation and we also collected funds to purchase books. I went to library sales and thrift stores. I went to half price books to purchase copies or more popular books for older elementary kids.
The small group got together to paint pallets to look like bookshelves. We used mess up paints from Home Depot and Lowe’s. Our book trunk or treat was framed by the fake pallet book titles.
The guys built simple bookshelves on old pallets. We also used an old spool with milk cartons. We had two picture book displays as well.
Josh made the giant books with popular book titles.
It was really fun to watch the children and parents go through and pick a book.
