DIY Crayon Beads

One of my go to party favors is DIY themed crayons. We did paws and bones for the Paw Patrol party, Pikachus for the Pokemon party, Spiderman heads for the Spiderman party, and I’m looking for for ideas for the Baby Shark party coming up. When I make those crayons the easiest way to unwrap them is to slide the wrapper with an exacto knife. I keep all the wrappers because I am a craft hoarder. The inspiration to make these DIY Crayon Beads was a gift for my sons’ teachers.

I really like how they turned out. They have that iconic Crayola swirl.

These beads are made with a bead mold, resin, and the ends of the crayon paper. I used an exacto knife to cut a straight line down the wrapper. This is the easiest way I have found to remove the wrapper and the wrapper stays mostly intact.

I have two sizes of bead molds. Each one requires the paper to be cut to a different size.

I just put the paper in around the piece that creates the bead hole. If it stick out you will need to cut the piece shorter. When I make things with resin I usually have several little projects set up to use up all the resin I mixed. I use little medicine measuring cups to measure out my resin. I will have little pendants set up just in case I have extra resin.

All 12 spots in my bead molds has a paper and I filled them with clear resin. Follow the directions on your resin. I have only had one project not turn out but it can be really disappointing if they come out cloudy or sticky. You have to follow the directions exactly or it might not set correctly. I’ve used jewelry glaze which is already mixed up and it looks similar to resin but I have not tried it with the bead molds.

The hardest part about resin is waiting the 24 hours to see what it looks like. Waiting is not my thing.

They turned out well! I made them into mask chains for the art teacher and pre-school teacher. I would love to see what kinds of thing you DIY with crayons.
