Plastic Soldier Cigar Box

My son goes to an afterschool program until we get off work. When I picked him up the other day he was playing with the little army men from the game Risk. He wanted me to buy him the game Risk so he could play with the army men. I suggested we just buy army men. I thought it would be fun to use one of the many cigar boxes I recently acquired to make a little travel army men case. We redid a cigar box to be a plastic soldier cigar box.

I am a history teacher and lover of old things. I was pretty happy when he wanted to get army men because I felt that it would lead to an interest in wars and history. He actually has played with them a lot more than I thought he would.

I wanted to cover the cigar box with something he could use as a background for his soldier play. I did not have nature looking scrapbook papers so I went with maps.

Modge Podge was used to attach the maps on the cigar box. I used packing tape around the edge to keep the paper from coming off during play. This has made for a durable plastic soldier cigar box.

  1. Great way to use cigar boxes. Those look like special ones though. I like when old things that remind me of my youth are used in new ways.

  2. Great use for a cigar box. But that one looks wooden. That’s a lot prettier than the ones I remember.
