Making Cameos with Resin and Sequins

My husband’s grandmother passed away just before Christmas. She enjoyed doing crafts and had a lot of supplies. I found drawers full of sequins and I wanted to see what kinds of things I could do with them. One idea was to see if using sequins and resin in the cameo molds would look good.

Using the sequins was fun but I feel like I had a lot more fails than success on this one. I tried four different methods of using the sequins with the cameos. I put resin and sequins in the face portion, a colored face with a sequin and resin background, resin and sequin frame, and a sequin cameo face glued to a sequin and resin pendent.

When using sequins to make the cameo face I discovered that it was essential to use glitter also or you couldn’t see the facial features of the cameo. I also found that using sequins significantly increased the presence of bubbles with in some cases led to holes.

Using sequins creates a unique look.

Materials Needed

Sequins

Resin

Cameo Mold

Step one

Fill in the face of the cameo. It is best to add glitter to the resin. This helps the features of the face to show up. If you are using sequins put a very small amount of resin and try to fill all of the space with sequins. Allow to dry 24 hours

Step two

Add the background color. If using sequins add a thin layer of resin and pour in the sequins. Make sure all portions of the background are covered by sequins. Allow to dry for 24 hours

**The circular pendant was made with resin and sequins. The cameo face was made in the mold and glued on later.
