Jewelry Box Redo

Since I make my own jewelry I have a lot of necklaces. I got this large framed jewelry box when we first got married. It was full of pictures of myself because I was going on a trip a long trip and I didn’t want my husband to forget my face. I never got around to switching the pictures out. This post is going to detail how I gutted it and redid my picture frame jewelry box.

It had gotten beat up over the many moves and I was not as found of the picture part anymore. I decided to gut the inside and remove the the picture part completely.

I do not wear earrings because they hurt my ears. I ripped out the earring holders.

I moved the necklace hooks to the top of the jewelry box so that my long necklaces would be able to be displayed. The back had a kind of velvety background and I ripped it out. It probably would have been better to leave it. The parts that ripped unevenly show in the paint.

The frame was a little scuffed up already but I used sandpaper to scratch it up a little more.

I used a house paint and brush for the frame. Spray paint would have been easier and faster. I had to paint several coats.

I taped off all the places I did not want to be gold. I was a little nervous about the velvet pocket looking funny but I think it looks fine. You can see that there are places that are uneven and look different. I cut out an image from a scrapbook paper and taped it over the uneven parts.

I love my cameos and I really like the idea that they are on display all the time instead of just when I open the door to pick out a necklace. I also like that I do not even have to open the door.

If you wanted to make something similar but you do not have this jewelry box already. You could buy a large frame and remove the glass. You would not have the bracelet, ring, and pocket part but you could add hooks to display necklaces. Let me know how you did your jewelry box redo!

  1. It’s lovely! It reminds me of a theatre stage actually. I want to add little people climbing the side and hanging lights for a big show.
