DIY Book Necklace

Make your own book charm necklace! This tutorial shows how to make a charm necklace with a charm of your favorite book.

I have an intense passion for books. Just ask my 12 bookshelves. The first time I saw these little book charms I knew I had to do something special with them.

I found my charms at Hobby Lobby and Michaels. I have only seen classic books. If you have a particular book in mind you can make your own books by using the doll books from the dollhouse section. All you need to do is just print the book cover you want (make sure it is tiny enough!) and modge podge it to the book. The little books are not made for jewelry so you will need to add something to string the necklace through.

I wanted to make my necklaces have charms that connected with the books. Robin Hood is not as popular as Peter Pan and Pirates so the charms on that necklaces are not really book specific. Someday I will find the arrow charm I bought for it. I was able to find a Peter Pan charm bracelet and a Pirates of the Caribbean on Wish. I took the charms off the bracelets and transferred them onto the chains I was using.

On the Treasure Island necklace, I made the chain from a long bit of chain. You can get this at Hobby Lobby or Michaels. The Robin Hood and Peter Pan necklaces were made out of necklaces I already had. Making your own chain is nice because you can make it any length you desire.

Step 1

If you are making the chain decide how long you want it to be and add the clasps.

Arrange the charms around the book charm. I like to arrange mine so the charms will not overlap when I’m wearing it.
