Old Clothes to Cute Halloween Decor

I hate throwing away clothes. It hurts my soul. So I don’t. When clothes get stained, stretched, torn, etc. I put them in a bag that the bottom of my craft cupboard. I use them to make other things. Like these Halloween creatures.

It can be especially sad to throw away baby clothes, but you cannot just keep baby clothes around forever. Unless you turn them into something else!

My kids carry these Halloween creatures around all the time. All year long.

I like this project because they are really forgiving and special.

Materials Needed

  • Stained Clothes
  • Buttons
  • Sewing machine, needle and thread, or hot glue

Step 1

Decide what  to make. Look at the stained clothing you have and figure out what creature you can make.

What are you wanting to make?

Holiday?

Christmas?

Easter?

Halloween?

Animal?

Step 2

Pick a piece of clothing that is going to be the main body of your creature.

The ghost is made from a long sleeve onsie and I just added the head made from another white piece of clothing.

Frankenstien had legs, arms, and a head attached to the polo body.

The pumpkin is just a circular shape cut out from a shirt.

Step 3

Cut out your shapes from the stained clothing.

I gave Frankenstein a square head. I used  the sleeves of the green polo I cut up to be his arms. The legs were rectangles.

The ghost has a triangular shaped head.

Step 4

Sew all the pieces together separately.

Step 5

Assemble the body and sew together. Leave an opening for the fluff.

Step 6

Stuff the creature and sew it up. If you do not want to sew a hot glue gun would probably work just fine.

Step 7

Add faces. You can draw on the faces or sew buttons for eyes and mouth.

My children are always carrying these guys around the house. Let me know what you decided to make in the comments!
